how it works
Met at pousada by local guide and stroll the streets of this picturesque historic town. Learn of its importance as a trading post for the burgeoning Brazilian economy. We visit the church of the Third Order of the Carmelite, second only to the São Francisco church in Salvador for its splendor. Trace the African heritage at the visitors’ center at the Boa Morte Sisterhood, a sorority founded to struggle for freedom from slavery. Visit the local fruit and vegetable market. Stop in at the local liquor store and taste some of the infused and tropical fruit cachaças on offer. Stroll the riverside promenade for wonderful views of the Paraguaçu river and neighbouring town of São Felix on the opposite bank of the river. Return to the hotel on foot.
